Summer Camping

walking on the beach

The water was freezing, but the kids didn't care.

Who's that pretty lady?

Lunch break

On a hike with the kids

We made it to the top!

While climbing around the boulders, the kids found some small caves to climb in.

This is fun...I think.

Getting the fire ready to make s'mores.

"Well, now what do we do?"

I forgot the hot dogs, so we had to settle for grilled cheese sandwiches.

We were supposed to do our annual camping trip to the Great Sand Dunes the first weekend in June. All the days leading up to it and the days after that weekend were great. The forecast for when we would be there: windy, rainy, a high of 68 and a low of 38. With three young children and a toddler, we decided it would be better to postpone until the end of June when the weather would be nicer. All the days leading up to the trip were great, but the forecast for when we would be there: windy, rainy, a high of 68 and a low of 38. Again! We were determined to not let the weather ruin another trip, so we looked around the state trying to find a place with decent weather. We found a great camping area with a large lake just outside Walsenburg. And the forecast? High in the 80s and low in the 50s...it was perfect. After some searching, we found some nice campsites near bathrooms and a playground. There was also an amphitheater, a golf course, and a children's fishing pond. Everyone had a great time and Erica even slept through the night. I still prefer the Sand Dunes, but it was nice to try somewhere new.
